What is a Senior Move Manager?
Senior Move Managers provide a variety of services throughout the entire process of a move. From determining a timeline for your move and beginning the task of deciding what to take with you all the way through to unpacking and getting you settled in your new home. We can also coordinate your move day, helping to reduce your stress. Your services can be detailed to what YOU need to make a smooth transition into your new home.
Why should I hire a Senior Move Manager?
Senior moves are unique. Seniors are often leaving homes they have lived in for many years and making decisions about what they need at this stage of their lives. This is often an emotional and overwhelming task. Family members may live far away or tensions may run high as decisions about what happens to all the ‘stuff’ occur. We also help facilitate items getting to family and friends who want them.
I’ve moved before and never had a Move Manager. Why would I hire one now?
Move Managers are specialist in the move process. Because it is complicated and stressful, you are hiring a temporary, personal assistant to help with various aspects of your move and to ease the difficulty that comes with moving.
What are the costs of Senior Move Services?
There are many variables which determine cost. The size of the current residence and the size of the new residence impact how much can go to the new home. Decisions must be made about all items in the current home. This process varies by client and impacts the amount of time we work together. Some want to be involved in every decision, while others provide guidelines for the Senior Move Manager to follow when working without our client present. All of this is taken into consideration when the estimate is given. We charge a per person, hourly rate. A written proposal is provided with a deposit due in order to begin scheduling your sessions.
If you are hired by the adult child or family member of a Senior moving, who is in charge?
Our client is the person who is moving. We will keep the person hiring us involved and informed. We can follow up with the family as often as we agree is needed at the time of the proposal.
Do I have to use your services for all aspects of the move?
No, we are available to help with whatever services you determine you need.
Will you work alongside my family?
Absolutely! We welcome the involvement of family members.
I’m considering a move, but not ready to move just yet. Can you help me even if I don’t have a move date in sight?
Of course! The perfect time to begin is when one first entertains the possibility of a move. Many of our clients have lived in their home 20-30 plus years and often, have not only their own belongings, but those of deceased family members and adult children. There are many decisions to be made as you determine what you really want (or can) to take with you. We are happy to help by scheduling sessions in whatever manner works best for our clients. It may be every day for several weeks, weekly or monthly.
Are your services just for Seniors?
We specialize in Seniors, but we don’t discriminate by age! We love to help anyone who needs our assistance in a move.
Why have I never heard of Senior Move Managers before?
The field of Senior Move Management is relatively new and rapidly growing. The National Association of Senior Move Managers (NASMM) was formed in 2003 with a mere 22 companies. NASMM currently has more than 900 companies in their membership.
Why is there a need for Senior Move Managers?
Americans are living longer. Every day for the next 15 years or more, nearly 10,000 Baby Boomers will turn 65 each day! The fastest growing segment of the U.S population is aged 85 and older. Often adult children who are in their 50s – 70s are downsizing at the same time they are helping their parents do the same. Families are busy and often children do not live in the same geographic region as their parents and are simply unable to assist them in this process. There are many more senior living communities available with amenities which allow seniors to reduce activities such as cooking, cleaning and driving themselves to appointments while also providing leisure and social activities to residents who wish to live in a space which meets their current lifestyle.
Is hiring a Senior Move Manager the same as hiring a moving company?
Some Senior Move Management companies do incorporate moving services. Squared Away Today does not move household items. We can help you find a reputable mover in your area.
What area do you serve?
We typically serve clients in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. One hour of travel is included in our sessions. Above one hour, there is a travel fee of $60 per hour, charged in 15 minute increments.
